Kabam concentrating its focus on mobile development but will continue to host Web games on Kabam.com
RockYou extends focus on classic games, including Kabam hits Dragons of Atlantis, Kingdoms of Camelot and The Godfather
SAN FRANCISCO—(December 9, 2014)—Kabam, Inc. and RockYou today announced Kabam is transferring a majority of its Web-based games to RockYou, reflecting Kabam’s continued emphasis on developing games for smartphones and tablets and RockYou’s strategic expansion to extend the life cycle of long-running games from leading publishers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The transfer closes in early 2015, after which RockYou will assume responsibility for technical operations, updates, customer support, marketing, and promotion of Kabam games Dragons of Atlantis, Edgeworld, The Godfather, Glory of Rome and Kingdoms of Camelot. Kabam will continue to operate Castle Age, Realm of the Mad God and other games developed by third-party partners on Kabam.com.
“This is a highly strategic move for Kabam as we are concentrating all of our development might and muscle on mobile games for our core North American and European markets, and expansion to Asia,” said Kabam Chief Operating Officer Kent Wakeford. “At the same time, we want to provide an established home for Kabam’s Web games to benefit the fans who have played them for years, and for new players who’ll soon discover them on RockYou.”
